Cycle Maps

A 2012 edition of the Leeds Cycling Map has been produced by the city council, specialist cycle map makers and local cyclists. Using the map cycle journeys can be planned to use the most appropriate routes for cycling. These are not always obvious. Using the map makes cycling easier and more pleasant.

Hard copies are available free, either from the Thorpe Park Travel Plan Coordinator (contact us), cycle events held across the business park, or from local cycle shops and the Leeds Gateway Tourist Information Centre.

• Leeds South Cycle Map (covering Thorpe Park);

This route uses quiet roads, bridleways and cycle tracks to link Garforth to Thorpe Park, Whitkirk, Temple Newsam Colton, Halton, Richmond Hill and the City Centre.

Following the 22km route from Leeds to Saltaire, you will discover a variety of attractions and places of interest. Starting from Granary Wharf on the edge of the city centre, the towpath takes you on a peaceful route through the bustling city of Leeds. You will pass a number of attractions including Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills, the medieval Kirkstall Abbey, Bramley Falls and Apperley Bridge before reaching your destination at the World Heritage Site village of Saltaire.

This mostly off road route follows the Aire and Calder Navigation to the south, past the Royal Armouries and Thwaite Mills Industrial Museum, to the nature reserve at Fleet Bridge and on to Wakefield.

This route uses cycle lanes and tracks to provide access to the City Centre and Aire Valley Towpath, and provides and alternative to the busy Armley Gyratory.

This route follows the disused railway track between Thorpe Arch Trading Estate and Retail Park and Spofforth, passing through farmland and woods, and the market town of Wetherby. Other attractions include Wetherby racecourse and Spofforth castle.

The West Park cycle route has been designed to  encourage more cycling amongst students and residents living in the  West Park, Burley Park, Hyde Park and Headingley areas.  The route will improve access to the city centre , University of Leeds’ campus and Weetwood Playing Fields, Leeds Met University City and Headingley campuses, and will also provide a  link to Lawnswood High School.

This major junction can be off putting for cyclists and confusing to use, but does have good cycle facilities if you know how to use them.

The Middleton Route passes schools and parkland on its way to the city centre, and provides easy cycling to a number of other destinations including Beeston, Cross Green and the Trans Pennine Trail and Aire Valley Towpath National Cycle Network Routes.

The Alwoodley Cycle Route uses cycle tracks and quiet roads to provide a safe and  direct  way to cycle to the city centre, taking around 35 minutes inbound.  It passes through Alwoodley, Meanwood, Stainbeck and Little London and provides easy access to Meanwood Urban Farm.  The route is also handy for getting to several schools including Cardinal Heenan Catholic High  School , Allerton High School and the Carr Manor Schools.
